Dawn & Offsigning

Just finished the Eastern "swath", Picked up the last node and 50% of this project is over and done with. There will not be much left next time we come back. Now deploying nodes on the Western swath, closing in on the SBM and tanker. Lets see how to play that one? Helicopter inside 500 is a no no.
Hand over done, desk is clean, bag is packed, sent off the weather report to the helicopter dispatcher in Mumbai..I'm going home...

Sign off tomorrow

Had a "general repitition" today. Two choppers, 13pax on, 12pax off. tomorrow the big day 5 choppers.
Hopefully we will make it, but we must reduce the "turn around" time onboard. I am Keeping the supply boat "standing by", if no time for a 5th chopper, a few of us can take her to Mumbai. And we will be home for christmas.

Avmoenstring imorgon,
Hade general repetition idag.
Transit across the field. driving "forward", when in DP we always face aft,(most of the time)
I transit oever faeltet.

Shady operations.

Adding a few pics from far, thus haze and dusk hugely impact the result.
Amazed by the numerous helicopterlandings in a day. Many riggs get visited during the day. 3-5 people with their little "carry on"bag works for a few hours, then comes the chopper again. Pick them up and bring them back to the bigger platform. Strange things in the making?

Mystisk verksamhet?

Personal transfer / provisions.

3 new crew members arrived yesterday with the supply boat.
After that we provisioned well into the evening.
Today we have continued recovery of our nodes. Helicopter manifests are now complete with weights and all, sent to “shore rep” for completion with the joining crew numbers.
I think Burt is hungry, amount of smaller moths etc. is now deteriorating, he has to fly closer to the flood lights aft of the bridge night time to get something to eat, and that is not good for him.

Now and then.

Just let the Supply boat go. Properly set up with "good stock" for my reliever(Christmas approaching).
Crashing time.. It'll be a few hectic days ahead, have to make time for clearing the piles on my desk.
Below two ROV on deck pics, not only a 9 months ago and in another part of the world, but approx 25 degrees C, difference.

Just lagt av supply baaten.

Management review

Today management review. A few good points to bring to our shore management.
Sat a new record yesterday 91 nodes either deployed, or recovered in 24 hours.
Now we are recovering again until tomorrow afternoon when supply boat is back with 3 new crew members and more provisions.

Current subsides

Current has subsided, and ROV are breaking records, faster and faster.
Managed to get "half a Bart" yesterday...he is so quickly flapping. Not a good pic, just to show that he is still alive and kicking.
Been cosy summer weather today again, a bit hazy/humid. Not that I am effected, in my confined glass cubicle, "detained"  all day light hours 06-18 on the bridge, no no not complaining, just a statement of fact.

Varit fint sommarvaeder idag igen.

On the Topic...

A couple of insects..
They are a few days old, so maybe they all are in little Burt-Bat's stomach by now. He is still around and hunting during dark hours. Had the pleasure of starting to prepare the "manifest forms" for all the helicopters that are to be used during our crew change next week. 2 choppers the 6th, and 5 the 7th.

Naagra fler insekter.

Indian Cricket, not a sport…

…But a beautiful insect I photo’d the other day.
Not at all camera shy.

I also had a visit from Burt- Bat this morning. I think again someone stumbled upon his daily rest and “hiding place”. After 5 minutes he settled down probably found a good place again. Right now evening time, I see him from my window flying around in the darkness, catching moths and other nocturnal flying insects hovering around and above the “lit” vessels deck. Impressed by the technic
of using “sonar” for locating the prey, and how quickly he changes direction, good flyer.

Indisk Graeshoppa.
Indien-Musse doek upp idag foermiddags.

Weather?

Expected weather today, many other operators has “fled” the field, leaving us, Hugin & Munin to do “our thing”. Very good, because all other operations are complicating, and delaying our work. Weather still fine, we are progressing and are happy. (Burt the Bat, "took off" last night, he did not even say good bye:-(

Aer lite besviken :-(

“Burt the Bat” onboard .

Thought it was a funny looking bird trying to get into the bridge windows. Turns out to be a bat.
Poor little creature, all stressed out, looking to hide away from the bright daylight.
He (or she?)Finally managed to squeeze  “itself” into a little corner . We put out some cover, provided fruit and water, hoping that he is a vegetarian, not a “moth eater” (no clue?)
Sleeping all day.  Let’s hope he recovers tonight when darkness falls.

Providing a photo  of a bat I took in Dalhousie NB (Canada) onboard Maria Gorthon,  June 2006. That fisty little bugger, managed to fly into our accommodation. We had to try, and we managed, to chase him out again without injuring him. In comparison, Canada-Burt is a little furry ball, India-Burt is probably not expecting the Celsius to drop below the zero at any time, thus less fur (I guess).

Fladder musse ombord.
Saellan maangen minus grad I Indien (Vael?)

Rescue boat repair.

One of our rescue boats needed, glass fibre repair of its hull. Transferred to a place for easier access and repair.
Safety meeting today with the presentation of an incident that occurred in this field year 2005. A Multi Support Vessel collided with a rig, and severed a gas riser, which resulted in a huge fire, destruction of the rig, 4 days later the vessel, that also caught fire sank, in total many casualties. Remains of this disaster still visible from our vessel, and work in progress to rebuild it all right now, barges divers etc. We are slowly approaching and we will plant nodes around the area. A tricky one for sure.

Raeddningsbaat reparation.

Life in the ocean.

Working immediately South of the big installation today. We clearly saw that the closer to the installation (rig) we got,  the more “biology”( live species) we could see.  Fish shoals, and today a fat ugly snake, curled around the node..  Puhaa! (hate snakes). They learn that the catering staff on the ”rig” throw food waste into the sea on a regular basis, so it is a good place to be. QC –run was successful today.

Liv i oceanen.
